learn more about false bay hospital

History

False Bay Hospital opened in Fish Hoek on 6th April 1965, after being transferred from Simonstown to bigger premises in Fish Hoek. Over 50 years later False Bay Hospital is still functioning and treating patients, whose numbers are growing steadily.

The False Bay Hospital Association since its inception in 1930, played a major role in raising funds for the hospital and still exists today. Over this time numerous innovative fundraisers were held by the dedicated volunteer members which included cake sales, Gala Balls, bob dances and braais. All money raised went towards the functioning of the hospital. Members also knitted for young and old patients and provided them with blankets and clothing. Volunteers lobbied with the Department of Welfare for food and disability grants for patients in need. Volunteers also provided tea and biscuits for the out patients of the hospital, five days per week.

From 1968- 1974 the Association promoted and ran the Dental Clinic with volunteers. Today this clinic is run by the Provincial Administration. The FBHT in association with the False Bay Hospital Association is now driving this important process.
